Prevent Lost Luggage when Travelling

May 16, 2018 - by Angie Michelle

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, American airlines lose an average of about 10,000 bags a day. Canadian Airlines aren’t required to report incidents of lost or damaged luggage, so we don’t have exact numbers. Either way, you hope it never happens to you.

Here’s a great device that can ensure it never does: Tile Mate. The bluetooth-enabled Tile Mate allows you track the location of your bag, purse, keys – any item you attach it to! This brilliant little device is a genius way to keep track of your luggage before it leaves on the next flight without you.

The company released their first product, Tile Mate in 2014, then version 2 in 2015. Since then, they’ve added Tile Sport, Tile Slim and Tile Style, all about the size of 2 credit cards stacked together. The device emits a signal with a range of about 150 feet. But, there are more ways than one to locate your valuables with Tile. There’s an app that shows you the device’s last known location. This works by using crowdsourcing. Every tile is constantly being anonymously detected by other tiles. Your tile logs its location based on the proximity of other tile users. If you lose a tile, you can request that the app notify you as soon as it’s detected. The app will send you a mobile notification.

But, what if you lose your phone? If it’s your phone you’re looking for, just press the button on any of your tiles and your phone will ring -even when it’s set to silent!

Tile claims that there are over 10 million tiles sold around your community, so there’s a good chance you or your tiles will be around other users. This means your tile will always be trackable, making it a great addition to your next adventure.
