Vinyl is back with records being placed in the front of every music store. Analogue watches and clocks aren’t far behind. There’s something about a travel clock waking you up in an exotic, foreign hotel that rings authentic. Digital vs. analogue – there is no right or wrong. Sleek versus nostalgia. Tradition vs. modern. What type of traveller are you? I travel with a foot firmly in both camps.
I carry an ancient tiny travel clock for the memories traveling along with me, but use my smart phone for reliability. However, if I forget to charge it, or it’s in another bag while I am already tucked in, that travel clock is beaming beside me, and I can read it at night. It’s much easier to change the time for different zones; smart phones don’t always do so automatically. I was recently on a trip where we kept changing time zones, often several times in one day, and my “smart” phone was lagging way behind. The large display alarm clock by Magellans easily shows day, date, time and temperature. It has a large backlit screen, a retractable stand for compact packing, eight alarm sound options and a snooze function. Basic and economical for under $25.
