Not all trips are about disconnecting. Adventurers and every day travellers depend on smartphones to find the closest or best restaurant, bathroom, gas station, or shop. But you don’t need to load your phone with lots of gimmicky apps. To be a digitally dexterous savvy traveler, stick to the tried and true favourites. Wherever I travel in the world, I try to learn a few key phrases around activities I know I will be doing. Regular manners are also nice to include such as please, thank you, what is your name, my name is, and so on.
The first time I went to France, I was in a restaurant, and so pleased with myself that I knew how to ask “Where is the bathroom” “Ou est la toilette.” The waiter answered in French ……something I wasn’t prepared for, and sat back in my chair immediately, not knowing what he had said. If only I had the Mango Languages app. Every language imaginable is available to learn step by step from introductory level to fully conversational. From Arabic to Swahili and Spanish, Mango Languages walks you through it at a pace you are comfortable with. C’est va?
