Little did I know that when my travelling companion begged me to take something home for her because she couldn’t fit it into her own luggage, I discovered that it was a gift for me. A darling Tic Tac Toe game purchased at the Artisans du sable in the Magdalen Islands.
During a recent trip there, we were told about a shop that sold things made of local sand. I was skeptical, but being the good egg I am, I trudged along with the gang. Well, the minute I walked through the doors of Artisans du sable, I knew it was somewhere very special. More like a gallery than a shop, I was truly mesmerized by the process and the eclectic assortment of sand sculptures. As you may not know, the Magdalen Islands boasts more than 300km of beach. In 1981, the artistic duo, Nicole Gregoire and Albert Cummings made their dreams come true – creating a craft from the islands natural materials, working with their hands and of establishing relationships with visitors.
