Many years ago, I attended the Cranberry Festival in Bala; I had been on the hunt for a beautiful cribbage board for the cottage at the time. Touchdown! But the joy of discovery did not end there. This darling corner stall boasted many beautifully hand-made wooden board games and so began the Dice Poker competition which ended most Saturday night family dinner events…and often was played into the wee hours of the morning.
Michaud Toys, a family-rooted enterprise handcrafts a unique line of traditional wooden board games including well-known ones like Cribbage and Backgammon as well as more unique games such as Dice Poker and Crokinole, now all part of our family collection.
In a recent family trip planning meeting, I was challenged to find a way to bring Dice Poker on board. Originally, I was thinking of taking a photo of the full-size version (with Michaud’s permission, of course) and printing and laminating it so it would travel well (and lightly).
Imagine my delight when I discovered that Michaud Toys now made a travel-worthy version of Dice Poker! A converted touchdown.
Like it’s full size brother, this small, portable foldable board is made of Canadian hard maple; lines and numbers are etched right into the wood to provide a life-time of joy. The detail in board design and the selection and/or crafting of the dice, chips, glass gems as well as the use of magnets (and rings) for assembly is flawless.
Other travel-size options include: Sequence, Baseball and Rummoli/Rummy.
I have had the pleasure of ordering from Michaud Toys. They bring their passion and attention to detail to their customer service and never hesitate to accommodate special requests at the drop of a hat.
