As an avid reader, I used to carry one novel, worried that I would zip through it and have nothing to read; like many of my generation, I was reluctant to join the e-reader bandwagon. One of my favourite things about flying is the uninterrupted reading time I have. Explore
I admit I often buy a few too many items when I travel and panic because I don’t have the luggage space, usually opting for carry-on only. This fold-up tote bag to toss into my suitcase or use as well as my carry-on is the answer. It’s feather-light, folds up and zips into a compact pouch. Slide it over your wheeled luggage or throw it in as an extra bag to carry your savvy souvenirs home. Explore
You already know that I am a bit of a neat freak…so it won’t surprise you to learn that I often travel with hangers. In a recent podcast, I learned about the Huggable Hanger and immediately placed my order. They come in some lovely colours: green, teal, black, coral and blush. They are ultra-thin and very lightweight and therefore take up very little space. The velvet surface avoids slipping and the gentle curve design helps to preserve shape.Explore
I’m not a knapsack person, however as a frequent adventure travellers, it’s a necessary item to carry. I have had an AmeriBag knapsack for approximately seven years and cannot find a fault with it. Recently I was looking to replace it and looked in earnest at many different types but couldn’t find any knapsack that ticked so many boxes as well as being sleek and simple to carry.
Many years ago, I attended the Cranberry Festival in Bala; I had been on the hunt for a beautiful cribbage board for the cottage at the time. Touchdown! But the joy of discovery did not end there. This darling corner stall boasted many beautifully hand-made wooden board games and so began the Dice Poker competition which ended most Saturday night family dinner events…and often was played into the wee hours of the morning.Explore
Good quality sleep is the healthiest and hippest way to dream big. But is it possible to sleep well on an airplane? Airports are filled with people walking around with pillows draped around their necks. For some, hauling their favourite bed pillow along for the trip is the only way. Look for something that would be really supportive. The best pillows keep your head elevated and in alignment with your spine.Explore
I often stay in hotel rooms on my own and feeling safe and secure = a good night’s sleep. Short of jamming a chair under the doorknob, this door-stop alarm does the trick securing any hinged doors.
I must admit to having a variety of toiletry bags for different types of travel, but this hanging toiletry bag with multiple compartments is my ‘go to’ favourite. Occasionally, when traveling, I have to share a bathroom with someone, and this travel bag which hangs on a hook forces me to be a tidy traveler (only when sharing).Explore
Last spring, I fell in love with Cape Breton and all available bugs in the area fell in love with me. An evening at Fort Louisburg had me covered in black fly bites, and I mean everywhere. The next day, after touring the Gaelic College, I visited the gift shop. I always visit gift shops…it’s a weakness of mine. I came across a jar of locally made, natural bug bite remedy that immediately eased the itching. Mosquitos seem to be drawn to me, especially the days I eat bananas, and this salve takes the itchiness away.Explore
When I look for a new suitcase, I thought my needs were simple until I was introduced to “The Barracuda.”
The carry-on suitcase is similar to a friend that cannot do enough to help you, who goes out of his or her way to deliver before you even ask. The suitcase acts as your own personal concierge anticipating your every need.Explore
