I was recently travelling where weather is unpredictable from hour to hour. I knew that what I brought with me would impact my daily routine, if not carefully thought through. I do know about the three-layer formula: base, puff and waterproof…but I never really bought into it…until now. Base and waterproof were amply covered…it was the “puff” that challenged me. I had always thought that they were too hot, too bulky (on and off) and too expensive. And then there’s the issue of down vs. polyester.
A visit to Eddie Bauer and a very lovely, knowledgeable sales person brought me to a rack of colourful, reversible, thin, weightless, windproof zip jackets in a variety of duo-colour combos.
I fell in love instantly. I wore my Ignitelite Reversible Jacket day and night, with, and more often without the waterproof layer (not needed). Most of the time, I forgot I was wearing it. And then, one day, I decided to wear the it on the bright smooth turquoise side (vs. quilted indigo), and it was like having a whole new look.
The shell and lining are made with recycled polyester; the stuffing is 55% recycled. The durable water repellent finish sheds moisture so it keeps you warm, even in wet conditions.
I may just be tempted to go back and buy the sleeveless version.
