Ferrosi’s Perfect Outdoor Pant

May 6, 2017 - by Julie Kerr

We’ve all been there, planning for a trip or an excursion agonizing over how many or which layers to bring. Going back and forth, asking yourself questions like: If I wear pants will I be too hot? If I wear shorts, will I be too cold? Well, Outdoor Research has taken pity on you, and come up with the Ferrosi pants: the perfect lightweight hiking pant.

On a hot summer day, these will have no problem managing the heat; in the cold they will keep the wind at bay. Made from 86% nylon and 14% spandex, the Ferrosi pant are stretchy, breathable, and wind and water-resistant. Specifically designed for rock climbing, they can be stretched in every direction without resistance, which makes them extremely comfortable whether you are walking a trail or traversing up a 100-foot rock slab.

The draw cord cuff closures are another great feature. When in the middle of my favourite trail and the sun starts to beat down on me, I just roll up my pants to the knees and tighten the cuffs, making them a great alternative to the more traditional zip off pant legs.

To truly experience how comfortable and light these feel, try them on for yourself. The fit in particular tends to be a bit on the large side, especially in the waist, so I recommend trying a size smaller. I do caution that due to the lightweight fabric these pants may not be as durable as a traditional hiking pant. However, Outdoor Research has an iron clad warranty which covers all personal damages and will replace yours with a new pair at no cost.
Coming in at just under $100, if you need something that can handle a cool spring day or a hot summer hike, these are a perfect outdoor adventurer’s friend.
