ExOfficio Boxer Briefs and Hipkini Underwear

November 13, 2017 - by Jeff Thomason

ExOfficio underwear

I grew up clothed in wool and cotton, and came rather late to the layering concept for active wear. The Arran sweater my mother knitted for my 20th birthday has been on many an early-Spring paddling and camping trips. Cotton underwear has been a staple on these trips – one pair of jockeys a day, replaced but not washed. The clean spares are rolled in a towel and used as a pillow. And yes, it has always been jockeys rather than boxers.

So, when my wife presented me with two pairs of ExOfficio Give-n-go Sport Mesh Men’s Boxer Briefs underwear before a recent trip, I was mildly skeptical. By now, I have embraced layering enthusiastically for all outdoor activities. But boxer-like, slinky underwear? Really? They felt good when I slipped them on: hugging not loose, with a cupping at the front a bit like a jockey. The material was light, porous and stretchy, with knotted stretch stitching that gave where necessary. It provided the lightest but firmest support possible. I hopped on my bike (almost forgetting my shirt and shorts) and went for a quick, but hilly ride. Even when sweaty, I was comfortable and still felt like I barely had any underwear on. My skin was hardly wet, and the underwear, once removed for washing, was much less odouriferous than the T-shirt. And they dried in a snap.

So I’ll take two pairs of Ex-officio on my next trip, washing a pair each day. Less weight to carry, but I will need a pillow.

ExOfficio Give-n-go Sport Mesh Hipkini Women’s Underwear

This is easily my favourite pair of underwear, and the ones I search for in my clean laundry hamper because at  $24 a pair, I only have two of them.

Off work with a relatively new baby, my travel is somewhat limited currently, so you might think my opinion of ‘travel underwear ‘ would be redundant but the same criteria applies to both parties. It’s breathability and odour shield is great for the busy parent on the go who isn’t bathing every day.

Its breathable material is light and airy and moves comfortably all the live long day. Whether I am walking with a stroller, riding a bike, teaching Zumba or kayaking I don’t have to think about the underwear I have on. If the price was any less, I’d never wear anything else.
